The Prairie Ecosystem is Disappearing.

And we're fighting to bring it back, one hoofprint at a time.

Did you know that the North American prairie is one of the most endangered ecosystems in the world?
Over 80% of the native tallgrass prairie ecosystem has been lost and plowed under for industrial agriculture, paved over for urban development, or overtaken by invasive species such as Eastern Red Cedar Trees.
The Prairie Is Vanishing. Fast.
🌱Less than 1% of native prairie remains intact.
🌱Plowing up and conversion to cropland leads to 10x more biodiversity loss than any other ecosystem type when entire soil microbiomes beneath the ground are destroyed.
🌱 Prairie grasslands store up to 70% of their biomass underground, making them powerful carbon sinks.
🌱The prairie is home to over an estimated 2,900 species of plants, 200 species of birds, 120 species of mammals, 150 species of reptiles and amphibians, over 100 species of fish, and countless insects. All are disturbed when their native home is removed.
At Bluestem Bison, we're not just raising meat. We're restoring prairie ecosystems.
Our Regenerative Ranching Practices:
Honoring the land and the bison that belong to it.
✅ No Tillage
Protects soil structure, underground life, and microbiomes of bacteria, fungi, and other organisms beneath. Bison hooves break the soil surface, allowing seeds to germinate and water to soak in.
✅ No Synthetic Fertilizers or Pesticides
Lets nature do the work. Bison wastes return essential nutrients to the earth, enhancing soil fertility without synthetic inputs.
✅ No Synthetic Hormones or Vaxxines Given to Bison
Pure, wild, and clean meat, as nature intended. No feedlots, no commercial grains, no unnecessary interventions.
✅ Mob Grazing
Mimics ancient bison patterns to regenerate pastures. Bison don’t overgraze. They roam, stimulating plant growth and allowing grasses to recover.
