In every bison herd, there is a wise, seasoned female cow who leads with calm authority: the Matriarch. While there are males or bulls in the herd, this female sets the tone.
Her leadership is rooted in instinct, experience, and fierce maternal devotion.

👑 Meet our Herd's Matriarch: Broken Horn
Nature's Fierce, Gentle Leader
At the center of the main herd at Bluestem Bison Ranch is Broken Horn, a wise and commanding matriarch. Her name honors the strength and sacredness of bison in native culture, and her broken horn is a symbol of the battles she’s faced to protect and lead her family.
She doesn’t follow.
She leads.
She is the first to sense danger.
She knows where safety lies.
She teaches calves where to walk, rest, and feed.
She stands between her family and harm.
Broken Horn is:
💪 A force to be reckoned with
🌾 A steady protector
✨ A beauty to behold
🌿 A peace to respect
👑 A leader to admire
❤️ A mother at the very heart of the herd
Just like the mothers we know and love, her love is both protective and powerful.
Her instincts guide the herd through harsh seasons, rough terrain, and uncertain times.
This Mother’s Day Weekend
We honor the powerful, nurturing forces of moms, grandmothers, aunties, and caregivers who guide and protect, like the matriarchs of our bison herd.
